10 PLACES TO SEE ON MAURITIUS!

When we hear Mauritius, the first picture we create is full of sandy beaches with palm trees and turquoise lagoons. The paintings, however, are never sufficient to describe the unparalleled beauty of the scenery of this picturesque little part of paradise.

A popular destination for honeymooners as well as for the luxury of intoxicated celebrities, Mauritius stands out as an exclusive destination offering top-notch service in its many luxury hotels, exclusive villas, and bungalows. Beaches, however, are not the only things this destination boasts about. If you want to explore the island in more detail you will be rewarded with an abundance of breathtaking beauties, historic sites, and lush forests. Rent a car and explore it at a pace that suits you. We present you places you should not miss.

1. LE MORNE

Le Mourne Brabant is located in the south of the island and is a barely populated place. It is mostly surrounded by hotels. There you will have the opportunity to see Le Mourne Mountain, a World Heritage Site, a peak that remembers the entire history of Mauritius. The mountain was a haven for slaves who managed to escape their lords. This is a place with lots of beautiful observation points on the west and south coasts of the island.


2. BLACK RIVER GORGES NATIONAL PARK

The national park stretches over 6574 acres of amazing wildlife-filled indigenous forest. It covers 3.5% of the island's surface and has multiple ecosystems. This dense forest is home to over three hundred species of flowers. Want to see one of the rarest birds in the world? The National Park is your best chance, it is the habitat of a pink pigeon, an endemic species from Mauritius that is almost extinct. It offers a number of long walking routes for all nature lovers. Black River Gorges is the perfect place to let yourself indulge in panoramic landscapes: gorges, hills and waterfalls.

3. CHAMAREL

Chamarel is a small village located in the Savannah district. It is attractive because it is the highest waterfall in Mauritius a hundred meters away, as well as the Seven Colors. Climb the stairs and enjoy the impressive view from Charamel Falls. The land of seven colors is made up of sand dunes of different colors. Shades of red, brown and purple will impress you. This phenomenon was caused by the cooling of volcanic rocks at different temperatures.

4. LA VINILLE CROCODILE PARK

The main attraction is certainly the crocodiles, but you will also see other animals such as large bats, turtles, monkeys and a large collection of insects. As you stroll through the jungle watching the flora and fauna, you will learn about endangered species of Mauritius. Its insectarium has one of the largest private collections of butterflies and other insects. These amazing beings will be a feast for your eyes.

5. PAMPLEMOUSSES BOTANICAL GARDEN
It covers 60 acres of land, and is characterized by a large number of different types of palm trees. The Botanical Garden is unique for its huge lily ponds that make it home to frogs, bats hanging from branches, a lake with large turtles and fish, and famous palm trees planted by celebrities like Nelson Mendele and Indira Gandhi.

6. CHÂTEAU DE LAMBOUDONNAIS

This exquisite property, the Château de Labourdonnais, will help you explore the life of 19th-century Mauritius This magnificent villa, built in 1859, has restored its original splendor, providing its guests with a unique experience. Take a stroll through her garden and try the local rum produced at Rhumerie des Mascareignes. You can also try the typical Moorish cuisine that will no doubt please your senses.

7. ILE AUX CERFS

A big island next to Mauritius. It is located on the East Coast, and is adorned with long sandy beaches, palm trees and the ocean in all shades of blue: as if you had come to a lost treasure island. 9. GRAND BASSIN SACRED LAKE
Grand Bassin is a quenched volcano that houses the lake at an altitude of 530 meters. Locals believe it is filled with holy water from the Ganges River in India. It is the holiest Hindu place in all of Mauritius and is very influential. The 30-meter-high Shiva statue adds to the uniqueness of the lake, and you won't be able to miss the temple dedicated to Siva.

10. CHAMP DE MARS RACECOURSE
Do you like horse racing? If your answer is "Yes", then you must visit this place. Get the best autfit and book Saturday for the Champ de-Mars Racecourse, the oldest racetrack in the entire Southern Hemisphere and the second oldest in the entire world. Enjoy canapés and drinks, and if you have the skills and luck you can win a jackpot. You don't have to be a big fan of horse racing to absorb the exciting atmosphere of the Champ de-Mars.
